Karavan - Learning about Export and Import

04 December 2014

Karavan Enterprise is a business that specialises in export and import. We are part of the Achievers International in which schools around the world join together to trade with each other. We will be trading with two schools, Auburn High School in Washington, USA and with Toronto Montessori School in Toronto, Canada.

Within next week, we will be conducting market research within the school to identify the needs of students and parents. This will be completed before the Christmas holiday and the results of the research will be collected and sent to our two partner schools. This will be the beginning the trading process.

After sending the results of the market research, we will be in constant communication with our partner schools to discuss the final products that will be imported to us. We will then sell the exported products in different markets after receiving our imported goods.

Meanwhile, we also have to export goods to our partner schools, this will happen after receiving product suggestions from them based on their own market research. We will then purchase goods and export these to our partner schools and they will sell them in their local area.

As Karavan is a newly formed business, we need to raise a significant amount of start-up capital for us to start exporting and importing goods. In order to do so, we have participated in the Christmas Fayre. During the Fayre, we have sold different products such as stuffed toys and hot pads. Through the Christmas Fayre, we have earned a profit of 2800RMB and this forms a major part of our start-up capital. Despite our successes in the Fayre, we are still hoping to raise more start-up capital in order to prevent our business of having poor cash flow. This can be achieved by participating in other events inside or outside of school or through investments made by any stakeholder that has an interest in our business.
