German Primary School First Graders Welcoming Ceremony

30 August 2014

Saturday, August 30th, was a very special day for the first graders of the German Primary School: Together with their families and friends they celebrated their “school birthday”, as this was their very first day in their life as students.

Saturday, August 30th, was a very special day for the first graders of the German Primary School: Together with their families and friends they celebrated their “school birthday”, as this was their very first day in their life as students.

The first day of school is something very special in Germany. Children create a Schultüte together with their parents which is then filled with little surprises. As every year, we had met together at the last day of the holidays to create such a Schultüte together.

The Schultüten of our children looked stunning and were decoratively displayed on the stage. As the opening act, our students from Klasse 2,3, and 4 had prepared a song about reading and performed it on the stage. After that Mr Puttock, our Head Executive, started his speech. But then - what a fantastic surprise: He had prepared the whole speech in German! Did you know that his German was so good?

Before it was then time for the parents to let their children enter this new stage of their life, Mrs Riedl, Head of the German Primary School, talked to the children about the origin of their Schultüten and what it means to learn at school. In the end, each Klasse 1 child was welcomed by an own buddy who gave them a present.

School can be fun! Our Klasse 2,3, and 4 proved that by dancing and singing together with Klasse 1 students on stage at the end of the ceremony. Thank you to all parents to make this event possible.

While their children were having the first lesson of their life, parents and teachers enjoyed refreshments outside. Finally, we all went to have lunch together.

I hope you all had an enjoyable day with lots of memories. For you and your children I wish a happy and successful time at our school and the future.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Warm regards

Ms. Christine Riedl, Head of German Primary School
