Following on from the huge success of this year’s Big Draw, a satellite competition was held within school for the students to participate individually. The students had to submit a personal piece based on the theme ‘Every Drawing Tells a Story’. We were delighted with the response from the students, who really let their imagination and artistic skills combine to create a range of exciting pieces. Out of all of the work submitted though, it was the wonderful and delicate lion head design submitted by Nina Krause in Year 9 that really wowed the judges to win first prize. Well done and well deserved Nina!
Hermione Hsieh & Nicole Kee
Both Hermione and Nicole are Year 9 students, who have produced beautiful self-portraits in the style of Andy Warhol. After taking their photographs in class, they manipulated their images using Adobe Photoshop to create the Warhol effect. They then transferred their design onto an A3 canvas, using the grid technique, and successfully completed it using acrylic paint.
JunHo is a Year 12 student who is currently studying IB Visual Arts. We have been studying portraiture and JunHo has relished learning how to work with oil paints. Here he has made a personal study, in oils, of one of the security guards from the compound where he lives. The piece measuring 100cmx100cm, has been completed in just under two weeks, as Junho has worked tirelessly on it both in class and in his own time, after school, to complete it. It has been a real pleasure watching it evolve through to an exceptional realised piece. Well done JunHo, I’m so proud of you!
