BBC School Report - Written report on Video Games

Education is quite often seen as an opposite to electronic gaming. But could they be combined for the benefit of both students and teachers. Making education more approachable and enjoyable.

Games have allowed the educational system to approach learning from new angles. They are often viewed as a distraction and have been discouraged by parents. But some electronic games have like “Spent!” have been proved to help students learn about real world problems. Some schools have begun to replace homework like times table and spelling practice with electronic games online or on mobile devises. These can help with basic learning and are starting to become part of the educational system.

As well as basic learning electronic games can create a realistic simulation of things like politics, finance and other aspects of the real working world. Games like spent can show you how to handle money in difficult situations; this is just one example of hundreds of games that can teach students real world skills. Historical games like Total War, Civilization and the Oregon Trail can allow people to change the course of history through their own actions and see what would happen.

To conclude many people believe that more technology and gaming in education is for the better. Others say that if we let technology and gaming plant itself deep enough in the education system then we will never be able to put it down, we will rely on it too much.
