4:50pm Year 11 students have arrived in Chengdu.

9:50pm

We left BSB on time and headed for our flight at the Beijnig Capital Airport. The journey was pleasant with no hiccups or delays. We arrived in Chengdu and were met by the Hutong staff.

Sean the trip leader then preceded to give the students a crash course in Sichuanese and taught us how to say awesome, ‘baasi ‘ and ‘shua’, meaning to have fun or to play. He also explained that ‘shua’ can mean many different things to the Sichuanese people and that they were all about having fun in their lives.

We then arrived at Chengdu People’s Park where there were examples of local people of all ages having ‘shua’. There were people dancing, singing, eating, painting and drinking tea. The students got to sample the cuisine and join in with the entertainment!

We then headed back to the bus to go to the restaurant. The food, what else, Sichuan hot pot! And boy was it hot!!! The students got to try all sorts of flavorsome delicacies such as meatballs, beef, pig throat, duck intestine, cows stomach and duck blood. A truly fantastic meal that left everyone feeling full. So, a great introduction to Sichuan.

Tomorrow we head to see the Panda’s and Kung fu in the afternoon...
