Year 2 has been busy learning about various Maths concepts such as addition and subtraction. The children learned a range of methods to solve both types of problems. They also practiced using a selection of manipulatives such as counters, Dienes number lines and hundred squares. During topic lessons, the students have been learning about important inventions and the inventors that created them. Some of the classes also put on a lovely assembly about inventors that interested them. The children will be designing and creating their own inventions and showcasing them later in the term.
English lessons have been about exploring Explanation texts through our ‘Talk for Writing’ approach. They learned about the features that make this type of text different and how to identify those features whilst reading. Through the teacher modelling, Year 2 learned to write their own explanation text about drums. Later, the children will write explanation texts about their inventions.
The children had a wonderful time celebrating Pancake Day and enjoyed spending the day in their pyjamas. The proceeds from the day went to the Migrants Schools charity.
