Year 2 have loved returning to school! Clearly after not being at school for such a long time, one of their first priorities was to reconnect with their friends and it has been lovely to see the joy that friendship brings on their faces and how well they connected with old and new friends since being in Year 2.
Learning has been varied and has included work on Addition and Subtraction in Maths, Pirates in English, Plants in Science and ‘I’m a VIP’ in Topic to begin with. Now the children are learning about Maps and Mapping and Forces amongst other things. They have all embraced their new learning with a huge amount of enthusiasm, rising to all challenges set!
The highlight of the term so far has to have been when the children became Paleontologists and dug out dinosaur fossils. This was for No Pens Day and the theme in Year 2 was Dinosaurs. We learnt dinosaur names, watched some video clips about dinosaurs and made dinosaurs with moving parts! As fun as this was however, it was when we dug out fossils from rock that the real fun began! The children took great care to dig out the fossils with the tools provided and were enthralled to see what dinosaur they had found – the most popular one was of course the T-Rex! It was a messy business but hugely enjoyable and at the end of it everyone got to take a dinosaur fossil home.
We have had such wonderful learning experiences in Year 2 recently!
