On 25th March, 8 Year 13 artists showcased their talent and passion in the IB Music Performance and IB Visual Arts Exhibition. The event began with music performances in the theatre and then everyone moved to the MPR for the Art Exhibition.

Ms. Donnelly, our IB Coordinator, opened the event with this inspiring message: “I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge these students how impressed I am - and have always been - by the amount of time, effort and creativity they have dedicated to their Art over the two IB years - and during a pandemic that frequently made physical access to that Art practically impossible. When all is said and done, it’s through Art that we feel most present, most empathetic, and most joyful. So let’s now enjoy this evening together, beginning by welcoming our musicians to the stage.”

The Musicians:

In Year 10, four boys realised that they all loved to play music together and started a band. They rehearsed for years, developed new skills, switched instruments, and rehearsed some more. Now, nearing the end of Year 13, these incredible musicians showcased their talents together at the IB Music Performance recital at the end of March.

As part of their assessment requirement for the IB, students must perform and record their pieces in front of a live audience. They all opted for “Solo Performing” as their IB component, but, after playing alone, they all accompanied each other’s solos and played a few ensemble pieces as well. They went above and beyond the requirements and wowed the audience.

Due to all the years they’ve been performing, Tyler, Alex, David and Seb are well-known around the school for their musical talents, so no one was surprised to hear their phenomenal playing and excellent ensemble skills at the recital. What really stood out is how completely at ease they were on stage and how much they enjoyed playing together. They captivated the audience with their charm and showmanship. Watch out, world – these boys will be famous entertainers someday!

All who attended were thoroughly impressed with these amazing students. Please enjoy the photos and videos of this wonderful event.

Please read the invitation below from Ms. Sarah Donnelly, Assistant Head of Secondary and IB Coordinator.

“Dear IB teachers and students,

I am delighted to be inviting you to a special event that celebrates the IB Arts at BSB:  the IB Music Performance, and the IB Visual Art Exhibition. This is taking place on Thursday 25th March from 3.30-5.30pm. The event will begin with the Music Performances in theatre, and will then move onto the Visual Art Exhibition in the MPR where canapes and drinks will be available too. Please note that late buses have been organised to take you home afterwards.

To give you some context:

IB Music

As part of their assessment requirement for the IB, students must perform and record their pieces in front of a live audience. Having worked very hard in Music - and not just in these past two years but throughout their school career- our four talented IB Music students will be thrilled to have their peers and teachers there to share in their final project. Our four incredible musicians are Tyler Adams, David Chen, Alex Liu and Seb Van De Merwe.

IB Visual Art

As part of their assessment requirement for the IB, Visual Art students must create a final exhibition of their two years' worth of work. Quattuor, meaning four in Latin, is the number of order in the universe: the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water; the four seasons; the four points of the compass; the four phases of the Moon; the Four Noble Truths.

This year, we celebrate four incredible artists, so please join us to celebrate the exhibitions of Jenny Fu, Julienne Simbajon, Senate Letlatsa and Saraine Chan.

It will be a wonderful evening where we will get to marvel at the talents of these 8 amazing artists. I look forward to seeing you there!"

Ms. Sarah Donnelly, Assistant Head of Secondary and IB Coordinator.
