Teaching is inspiring. Nothing feels more rewarding than impacting the lives of the young students that are in your class. I have been teaching pre-school for 2.5 years in Shanghai before coming to Beijing.
I did my undergraduate degree in Microbiology from The University of Toronto. After doing my undergraduate degree, I worked as an office administrator for 5 years in the Toronto Real Estate industry. During that time, I travelled solo to Asia and the experiences that I gathered during that time, introduced me to a career path of teaching abroad. Returning home from that trip, I was compelled to research this option and completed the TESOL course to begin my journey of teaching. I was hopeful that my engagement with an unfamiliar culture, so far removed from my comfort zone, would inspire me to learn more about myself and consequently led me to pursue PGCEi from The University of Nottingham.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the ability to witness the growth and development of my students and have the realization that I had a direct influence on their progression. Being in a position that allows me to help shape their minds and behaviours at such a pivotal young age and seeing the effects in the positive outcome of their assessments has given me a massive sense of accomplishment and fulfilment. I have had many experiences in which I have helped my students develop their confidence and encourage them to understand that it is entirely acceptable to not know the answer to a question, and to never feel intimidated from participating.
I firmly believe that through personalized learning every child is capable of developing socially, personally and academically, which The British School of Beijing strongly emphasizes and values. I know that working for a school that is committed to ensuring that your child succeeds in every aspect of their life, only assures that I have made the right choice for working at BSB. I see myself continuing to teach and shape young minds, and create a positive impact on them.
