I am a qualified teacher with a TESOL certificate and a PGCE with a specialism in teaching students with learning disabilities and/or difficulties. I first started teaching in 1996 in Hunan Province, China, teaching undergraduates who were studying to become English teachers and I’m excited to live and work in China again. I have 3 years international teaching experience as well as 5 years teaching in the English state education system. I have taught EFL, English/literacy, numeracy and ICT as well as basic skills, across a range of vocational subjects to learners aged 5 to adults. I have also worked for a London homeless charity and then I set up a my own business whilst my daughters were young.
Following my decision to return to teaching, I worked as a Personal Tutor with both Primary and Secondary students in Almaty, Kazakhstan and my most recent role was a Primary Learning Coach in a state boarding school in England, where I provided 1-1 and small group support with students with EAL and/or learning support needs. This has reinforced that my passion for teaching lies within EAL and Special Educational Needs.
I was young and single when I first lived in China over 20 years ago, and I am curious to see how much has changed, especially as I am now married with 2 children, and we are experiencing it together. We loved living and working in an international school before and we can’t wait to come to BSB Shunyi. In my spare time I love to sew and post what I’ve sewn to Instagram and I’m looking forward to getting back into badminton and getting fit!
