My focus at the University of Washington was creative writing and I wanted to be a writer. I was a part of the Seattle Poetry Slam and self-published a book of poetry. After graduating with a BA in English from the University of Washington, I did some travelling and taught English in South Korea. I fell in love with teaching while there, so I decided to go back to school to get my Master’s degree in Education from Colorado State University (Global), USA. While in Korea, I was able to help create an award winning speech program, the most popular after school class using Minecraft as a learning tool, and learn design skills that help me create my own lessons and education materials I use in my class.
After teaching in Korea for ten years, I moved to Kuwait for the last two years teaching Year 5, getting valuable experience as a homeroom teacher as well as understanding and experiencing a new culture and part of the world. I am excited to join BSB Shunyi in August 2022 teaching Year 5 and living and working in China. I look forward to being not just an educator, but a learner myself in a new location and with great new people to get to know and learn from as part of my new community.
I am an avid reader and love to challenge myself by reading new and different stories from around the world. I am a photographer that focuses on street photography and portraiture. I also love to travel. This world is a large and beautiful place and I want to see and experience as much as I can. I have also been practising martial arts for the last 15 years. Finally, ever since I was a child and received my first NES system, I have been playing video games and have even been working on introducing them into the educational world more and more. What I find the most exciting, though, is that there are still hobbies I have yet to be introduced to that may be added to this list in the future, and I certainly hope that happens.
