Sophie Duckworth

Sophie Louise Duckworth

English Teacher

After teaching in London for 12 years, I decided to make the move to China to teach in a new setting. I am extremely passionate about my role as an educator and have undertaken many different posts throughout my career, all of which have enabled me to become a better teacher and member of the school community.

I have held Pastoral positions such as Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Middle Leader positions and also Senior Leadership positions and feel that all of these have not only given me a better perspective on how a school is run but also a clearer focus on what pupils need in order to be happy and successful.

My previous role was as an Assistant Headteacher in a successful and high performing secondary school in inner London. Prior to this, I also occupied the role of Head of English and led a Department of 18 staff members in a school of 1300 pupils. In addition to these roles I was also awarded SLE (Specialist Leader of Education) status and often gave guidance to other teachers in different schools. I enjoy being in the classroom and am dedicated to my subject and my pupils which is why I decided to return to what I love – teaching!

Not only am I passionate about my profession but I am also dedicated to furthering my own subject knowledge. My initial degree is in English Studies, however, after gaining my PGCE at King’s College London, I decided to continue my development and completed a Masters of Research Degree in Postcolonial Literature. I hope that throughout my career I can effectively share my own love of learning with others.
