A-Level Scholarships

Join an established A-Level programme and build the best application to help you excel at university. The British School of Guangzhou offers applicants an opportunity to join our international community at the most important stage of education.

Before applying, please read through the application criteria below to find out whether this scholarship is suitable for you, and what additional information you need to provide us.




What is the entry criteria for the A-Level Scholarship?
  • Minimum of 8 x IGCSE examination passes at A* and/or A OR 7, 8 or 9
  • Only grades from the summer 2021 exam session will be considered
  • Only grades from subjects provided within BSG, or other international school curriculum will be considered
  • Grades achieved through external tutored or private entry through the British Council will not be considered
  • If successful, scholarship students will be expected to maintain the highest academic outcomes throughout their A Level studies
  • If successful, scholarship students are expected to be roles models for the BSG community and enhance the promotion of high academic outcomes
  • Letter of applications and interview performance is important and will be used to support final scholarship awards
What do I need to provide with my application?

Applications should include the following information to identify shortlist candidates:

  • End of year target grades from most recent school report
  • Letter of application from the student (1 x side of A4 max expressing why you believe you are a scholarship student)
  • Supporting statement from parents (1 x side of A4 max expressing your thoughts on why parental support for academic success is essential)
  • Applications for August 2021 must be completed through this application form and submitted by FRIDAY 2ND JULY
  • Applicants will be interviewed and assessed by a teacher panel, including the Principal and Head of Secondary to identify shortlisted candidates early in the new school year once GCSE results are in school
What is the process for awarding scholarships?
  • Shortlisted students’ grades analysis will be conducted in school when grades are received from the exam boards in early August
  • Shortlisted students will be placed in rank order by number of A* and/or A OR 7, 8 or 9 grades achieved
  • In the case of a tie, the strength of the student’s letter of application and interview will be considered
  • Scholarships will be awarded, and all shortlisted students notified of the outcome by Friday 27th August 2021
  • Awards may be delayed if students appeal against published grades (appeals must be approved by BSG and evidence based)
If I am awarded a scholarship, what do I receive and what are the expectations?
  • BSG scholarship will offer a 20% discount on annual tuition fees
  • BSG scholarship will be awarded for the duration of the 2 year A Level programme dependent upon excellent student performance
  • BSG scholarship will be subject to review at the end of Year 12 using mock examinations, AS results (if available), academic attainment reports and minimum 95% attendance
  • BSG scholarships will be withdrawn from any students who do not meet the highest academic outcomes, especially our core values, or contribute to wider school life
  • The Principal has the right to withdraw scholarship funding at any time if the name of BSG or NAE is brought into disrepute by the scholarship students or their families
