The children showed interest in colours as we were collecting leaves for our Autumn topic. We explored the different colours, sizes and textures of leaves and some children wanted to see if they could paint the leaves. We began our journey with colour, as the children painted the leaves there were so many wonderful colourful leaves that we made a large autumn tree and glued our leaves on the tree branches.
As we read our core text, “The very hungry caterpillar”, the children were fascinated with the life cycle of a butterfly and made their own butterflies using the folding method, they painted half the butterfly and folded the paper together making identical wings. We used different mediums with coloured paint including painting with brushes, stamps, balloons, fingers and mixing paint with shaving cream. We have really enjoyed getting messy and creative while learning about different colours.
