I have been teaching for five years. I have previously taught for four years at a Nord Anglia School in Qatar in the Middle East. There I taught a year in Reception, two years in Year 1 and a year in Year 2. Teaching in the Middle East has given me a lot of experience in teaching English Second Language learners and has made teaching Literacy a passion of mine. Doing this creatively and in a way that children find enjoyable is something I strive for in my lessons.
I obtained my degree in 2001 and have over 13 years of experience teaching Year 3 to Year 7 students. Guangzhou is my third international posting within China, having taught at The British School of Beijing and Dulwich College in Shanghai. Back home in Australia, I have been fortunate to teach in many schools across Western Australia; from Kununurra at the very north of the state, to Exmouth on the Ningaloo Coast, as well as both independent and state schools in Perth.
Year 3 Teacher & Student Welfare Leader
Since graduating from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, in 1998, I have taught in every primary school year group from reception to year 6. This has provided me with over 20 years of experience across all primary school ages. Since 2010, I have held various leadership positions including Depute Head and Principal Teacher. From May 2016 until August 2018, I was employed by the Scottish Government as Principal Teacher for the Scottish Attainment Challenge, West Lothian, in an advisory capacity across the local authority. The initial focus for this role was supporting the health and wellbeing of all of the children in two schools, followed by the responsibility for successfully ensuring attainment was raised in Literacy and Numeracy.
Year 3 Teacher & Learning Leader
After completing my degree, I spent a year in China working as a teaching assistant at the British School of Beijing. It was here that I quickly fell in love with educating and inspiring young people and decided upon a career in teaching.
I completed my PGCE through the University of Buckingham and worked as a teacher in Beijing for a further five years. After six amazing years in China, I wanted to explore another part of the world and so moved to the British College of Brazil.
Year 4 Teacher & Assistant Maths Leader
I grew up on the outskirts of South-East London and after completing an undergraduate degree, I went travelling around Australia and South East Asia for a year. It was in Northern Thailand that I began teaching English as part of voluntary work for an NGO. I found the experience rewarding and gained my PCGE in Primary Education. I began my career at a school in England, where I was PE coordinator, responsible for overseeing the sports teams and implementing the new PE Curriculum. After 3 years, the lure of travelling took me to teach in Qatar, where I gained a huge amount of experience working with children who often spoke English as a second language.
Year 4 Teacher
BSc, PGCE
I have been involved in supporting children’s learning since a young age, always helping my mum (who worked in schools) when I would get the chance, so it seemed a natural decision to become a teacher. I have now taught for over 12 years and have led a variety of departments, my last post being Head of English. My love of English has stayed with me and I am currently Reading Lead at BSG, where I hope to inspire all to gain a love of reading that will stay with them for life.
BA, PGCE
After I qualified with a degree, I began working in a local school in Cape Town for 2 years. Whilst Cape Town will always be the place I call home, I also loved the idea of travelling and exploring new, interesting and exotic locations and combining this with my passion for teaching; this led me to pursue a career in international education. Initially I moved to Kuwait, teaching at an international British school for 3 years. Whilst in the school I was able to take on a variety of rewarding roles and responsibilities, including become the Year Leader for Year 3 and leading school drama productions. These roles helped build my appreciation for both how children learn inside and out of the classroom as well as give me a greater insight into how to lead a successful team of teachers.
