After completing my degree, I spent a year in China working as a teaching assistant at the British School of Beijing. It was here that I quickly fell in love with educating and inspiring young people and decided upon a career in teaching.

I completed my PGCE through the University of Buckingham and worked as a teacher in Beijing for a further five years. After six amazing years in China, I wanted to explore another part of the world and so moved to the British College of Brazil.

I feel fortunate to have grown up in New Zealand. My teaching degree is from Otago University in the South Island, and I have eighteen years of teaching experience. During this time, I have taught students from Year One through to Year Eight. While teaching in New Zealand, I was involved in the Beginning Teacher program as a Tutor Teacher, a role that I enjoy and value. The last thirteen years, I have been teaching internationally. In teaching international, I have gained valuable EAL teaching experience and qualifications. The British School of Guangzhou is my fifth international school across four countries: UAE, Brunei, North Cyprus and China. I am excited about this new chapter in my career and I am looking forward to working with the talented and enthusiastic community of BSG.

After qualifying with a Bachelor of Primary Education, I began my teaching career in a rural town in Far North Queensland, Australia. After completing my first year of teaching, I moved back to my hometown of Brisbane where I took on a number of teaching roles across Key Stage One and Two. Five years into my career, I decided that I was ready for a new and exciting challenge and combined my love of travel with my passion for teaching and found myself in an international school in Tianjin, China. In addition to my role as Year 1 Class Teacher, I was also a member of the Junior School Math Team and one of the very first Outdoor Ambassadors for the school.

I have just started my 17th year of teaching with great experiences and memories. This is the third school that I have worked in and have previously lead two large P.E departments in Sports Colleges in the UK. The opportunities that I have given to pupils over the years include international school trips and competitions allowing students to compete and have cultural exchanges that they will never forget. With excitement, I have decided to move to China to gain a wider range of skills and cultural understanding to teaching and to mix this with my affection of China.

My teaching career began in 2007 when I trained to become an EAL teacher. Prior to teaching I was a marketing manager with a specialism in graphic design. I joined BSG in 2009 as an EAL teacher and from then I qualified as mainstream classroom teacher. I have taught different age groups, however, I have primarily been based within Key Stage Two Primary. Though I love teaching all subjects, my main passion lies in all things maths and I was previously Head of Primary Maths for the Primary school. I am a member of several teaching and learning associations including the Chartered Institute of Teaching, Mathematics Association, Association of Teacher of Mathematics and the British Educational Research Association.
