BSc, PGCE
After completing my degree at Cardiff University, I began my educational career teaching English as a foreign language in Thailand, before moving back to the UK to work in outdoor education on the Isle of Wight. Now certain that teaching was the career for me, I completed my PGCE at Southampton University, leading to my first primary teaching role at a school in Winchester. Before long, my wife Catherine Hathaway and I moved to Phuket, Thailand to teach at the British International School, Phuket, where I was a Year Six Teacher and Head of Maths. On returning to the UK on the birth of our first child, I worked at various schools, eventually becoming English Lead and Key Stage 2 Leader at my most recent school.
After teaching in Thailand, I always knew that I would want to return to working at an international school and so was very excited about the prospect of joining The British School of Guangzhou. The school has a great reputation both in terms of the quality of the education it provides and as a place to work and develop as a teacher. I feel very lucky!
I am moving out to China with my wife, Catherine Hathaway, who will also be teaching at The British School of Guangzhou. My two daughters, Poppy and Isla, will be joining Early Years and Year 3 respectively. When I am not doing what I love most (teaching!), I like to spend my time outside and am looking to continue my interests in cycling, photography and climbing. That said, I am always on the look for new ways to challenge myself, both physically and mentally.
