Year 4 Teacher & Assistant Maths Leader

BA (hons), PGCE

I grew up on the outskirts of South-East London and after completing an undergraduate degree, I went travelling around Australia and South East Asia for a year.  It was in Northern Thailand that I began teaching English as part of voluntary work for an NGO.  I found the experience rewarding and gained my PCGE in Primary Education.  I began my career at a school in England, where I was PE coordinator, responsible for overseeing the sports teams and implementing the new PE Curriculum.  After 3 years, the lure of travelling took me to teach in Qatar, where I gained a huge amount of experience working with children who often spoke English as a second language.

The decision to move to Guangzhou was an easy one. I look forward to having the opportunities to enhance my professional development and encounter children and staff from all different backgrounds.  The challenge of living in China is one that I am looking forward to tackling and want to quickly get stuck into the language – and the food!

I regard myself as a bit of a reluctant adrenaline junkie.  I have been known to participate in various white-knuckle activities such as white-water rafting, bungee jumping and skydiving, usually preceded with a great amount of dread.  I am also a keen Scuba diver and have recently qualified as a rescue diver.  When on dry land (and when not injured), I enjoy playing sport, especially football, and cross country running.  To relax, I like to read a wide range of literature and have been spotted in the kitchen, trying my hand at creating some culinary delights.
