The Year 3 production of ‘The Sound of Music’ was a beautiful, heart-warming tale based on a real-life story of the Trapp Family singers. This classic film was brought to life in the final week of November as the children in Year 3 portrayed nuns, soldiers, the Von Trapps and even a Baroness.

The story follows Maria, who becomes a governess to seven children in the home of Von Trapp, a widowed naval captain. Sparks fly as two very different styles collide and Maria shares her unique point of view with the family. Soon the characters and the audience learn how love, laughter and happiness can all be gained through a passion for music.

From the fundamentals of singing with Do Re Mi to listing our favourite things during a thunderstorm, all of Lower Campus will be humming these songs for a long time to come. Year 4B particularly liked the “enthusiastic characters and smiles” and Sonya in 4C liked the singing. Her favourite song was the yodelling puppet show. Stepan thought the acting was wonderful and Leo thought the children did well to remember their lines.

So ‘The Sound of Music’ was a resounding success. Year 3 were very sad that it was all over. All that is left to say now is, of course:  “So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu!”
