At Nord Anglia International School Manila, we believe children learn best when they’re happy — and happiness grows in a community that cares. Our school community recently came together for Outrageous Week, a celebration of kindness and compassion where purpose truly came to life. When a devastating fire displaced thousands of families in the Tondo area, our students, teachers, and families united to support relief efforts — in partnership with the Upskills+ Foundation, a charity dedicated to empowering communities through education, livelihood, and care.
Partnering with Purpose: The Upskills+ Foundation
The Upskills+ Foundation does incredible work in its community — supporting children through school and college, providing meals for senior citizens, and helping families find sustainable employment opportunities. Their mission to create lasting change made them the perfect partner for this initiative.
Together, we provided essential supplies and immediate assistance to families affected by the fire — showing that compassion becomes most powerful when turned into action.
Outrageous Week: Kindness in Action
Through Outrageous Week, our entire school came together to show what compassion in action looks like. Each day featured a creative dress-up theme that brought colour, laughter, and energy to our halls — but more importantly, it sparked meaningful generosity.
Students and families donated specific items and cash contributions, all of which went directly to the Upskills+ Foundation to support their outreach programs for affected families. No donation was too big or too small — every act of giving mattered.
How do initiatives like this reflect the kind of learning and character development we aim to nurture at NAIS Manila?
“Initiatives like this reflect the kind of learning and character development we aim to nurture at NAIS Manila by encouraging our students to show compassion, social awareness, and active citizenship. Through raising funds, collecting essential items, and learning more about the communities affected, students begin to understand the realities faced by others and the importance of empathy in action.
These experiences go beyond charity - they help our learners connect their classroom understanding to real-world contexts, developing resilience, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to making a positive difference within our local community.”
- shared by Wendy Spence, Head of Secondary.
As our Student Leaders shared, “We believe that we, as the NAISM community, cannot stand by. This is the moment to act.”
At NAIS Manila, we don’t just talk about making a difference — we live it. This initiative showed how deeply our students understand the power of community and empathy in action.
To our families, teachers, and students — thank you for your compassion and generosity. Your willingness to give, help, and lead with heart shows the true spirit of our school.
We’re proud of how our community came together not just for the fun and the creativity, but for the kindness that will continue to make a lasting impact.
