After a hearty full English breakfast we traveled to Cambridge. You could not help but feel inspired to learn whilst surrounded by 31 colleges dating back 800 years! What better way to get your bearings than to see many of colleges than from a punt on the River Cam. Unfortunately many were closed as they finished exams or were preparing for graduations but we could still get a flavour for what it us like to study here.
Matej and Lucy (BIS Bratislava) had booked the Science Open Day venue at Emmanuel College. They were escorted around by current students and had interview talks with the Admissions Tutor and had Subject talks with the Director of Studies. Great to see inside the college and they will greatly benefit from this when they come to do their applications in October. The other students had a general tour of the colleges and then went punting on the river!
Back to the hotel for our evening meal and then only the hardened travelers headed for central London to take in Sherlock's home in Baker Street, Harry Potter platform 9.75 at King's Cross, Green Park, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square. Don't ask what time we returned to base camp in Harrow!
3 universities to visit on Wednesday plus and cultural evening taking in Shakespeare at the Globe theatre.
See Lucy's comments below re Emmanuel College Open Afternoon
"The open day at Emmanuel was a very valuable experience for me, as I got to talk to some of the graduates and understand more about student life at Cambridge that cannot be found on the university website. The presentations given were friendly and I had the opportunity to ask questions on whatever concerned me or I was curious about. It was helpful in making applying to Cambridge seem not as daunting as it is made out to be and made me like the environment of the school all the more."
