Students in Year 10 are learning about the Structure of the Atom and Isotopes. Students use the Velcro bibs to 'act like atoms' by placing the electrons on the shells in the appropriate way. They can now use the electron configuration of an atom to determine the group number, period number and the likely ion that will form. Students learned about a pretend element called 'Biscuitium' to help them to discover what isotopes are and how to calculate their relative atomic mass. A memorable (and tasty!) few lessons!
