Year 2 Trip at Szemlőhegyi Cave

This week Year 2 headed for the local Szemlőhegyi cave in search of complete darkness as part of our topic on light and dark.

We discovered the amazing ‘popcorn’ rock formations 40 metres underground, the ‘cauliflower’ corner, ‘lasagne-like’ layers and the beautiful ‘flower garden’ formations. There were some other, unexpected, creatures that we looked out for in the unusual rock formations in the cave. With a keen eye, we could see the polar bear and cub and the laughing witch. We also saw the original entrance to the cave, high up in one of the chambers, where the only female caver on the team, Maria, first entered the complex tunnels. At the end of our tour, our guide switched off the lights and we experienced complete darkness.
