Kiscelli Cup 2020

The excitement had been building for several weeks and we couldn’t think of a better way to finish off the term.

Kiscelli Cup 1

The girls had been training with their teammates on different pitches. There had been adverts around the school and it was not just the team members that were excitedly talking about the match between Legia Walker and AFC Moruzzi. The match had been hotly anticipated in what has been testing times.

Parents and students were waiting in the stands some fifteen minutes before kick-off. Mr Karacsony was playing all the hits and Mr Ronaszeki was on the camera as the atmosphere and excitement built from inside the tunnel.  The students walked out to the Champions League music. Once on the pitch we were upstanding for the Hungarian National anthem performed beautifully by Ms Tóth on her flute.  After opening formalities with our match referee Mr Swaine, it was time for kick-off.

The game started well and both teams were neck and neck; it was hard to pick who the winning team would be. Legia came in at halftime with their noses in front thanks to a goal from Lena. It was deserved but came at the expense of a mix up at the back. Both managers gave their team talks and Mrs Ronaszeki supplied the half time refreshments. The teams made changes over the break and Legia continued to dominate early on in the second half with Alvita scoring three goals to make the scoreline 4-0 to Legia Walker. AFC Moruzzi sprung to life and enjoyed more possession and goal-scoring opportunities from then on. With five minutes to go Sofia of AFC Moruzzi hit a lofted shot that left Legia’s keeper Emma stuck to the spot to make the final score 4-1.

At the end of this enthralling encounter, Legia Walker picked up the cup to applause from the stands. It was an exciting occasion and enjoyed by not just the players, but everyone involved from the supporters and parents who were able to attend.  Thanks go to the parents for their attendance which added to the occasion and to Mr Swaine for agreeing to officiate the first match since the start of this year. Thanks also to  Mr Karacsony for being the DJ and building the atmosphere pre-match, and Mr Ronaszeki who has taken many wonderful photographs of the game. A special shout out to Mr Moruzzi who invested so much time in our Girls U14 team. Finally to Mrs Walker for putting together all the advertising and promotion for the match.

Have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year, we look forward to January and continuing to build our football team.

Go Wolves!
