Year 5 Science Topic

Year 5 enjoyed testing different sizes of parachutes this week as part of their topic about space.

  • Parachutes
  • Science

Our budding scientists learnt that landing the rovers on Mars involves using huge supersonic parachutes so they decided to do their own testing by dropping masses from the library terrace. They used 3 sizes of parachutes to see what difference area made to the time it took the parachute to drop to the ground. The children carried out 6 steps of the experiment so they could develop their understanding of different controllable variables that would make the tests fair.
