Year 5 & 6 Music

Our Primary students created some interesting group arrangements based on sea shanties and African music.

Year 5 Wave - The Wellerman Song Medley

This half term, Year 5 students have been learning all about Sea Shanties in Music and understanding their history and context. Over the past few weeks, students have been practising and creating their own arrangements of the popular sea shanty 'The Wellerman Song'. Students have explored how to incorporate a sustained drone and rhythm beat to accompany the song and melody on the piano. Here is a medley of performances from 5 Wave.

Year 6 Lava - Rhythms of Africa

Students in Year 6 have been learning about African music this half term, in particular the Djembe drum and its origins in West Africa. Students have been developing their understanding of polyrhythms and syncopation by learning a percussion piece called 'Rhythms of Africa'. Here are the groups from 6 Lava performing their group arrangements.
