This week, children in Year 3 learned how to mix rhythm. We discovered a variety of rhythms and note values, and then listened to Blue Monk (one of the 12 core works of the program curriculum) to see if we could hear any of the rhythms and note values we learned.
We also continued our ongoing keyboard skills development, learning how to play a major scale. Inspired by Thelonious Monk and his improvisation, we used our knowledge of different note values, swing rhythms and the C major scale to improvise with each other on the keyboard. Then we talked about what parts of the improvisation worked well and why that might be.
We wrapped up the week with a fun jam session!
