Students usually study four subjects in Year 12 (please see the options below). At the end of Year 12 students sit the AS examinations and may choose to continue with all four subjects or three subjects to A-Level.  In Qatar, students can enter some universities with a minimum of two AS-Level subjects.

Successful completion of Year 13 and A-Level qualifications enables students to apply for entry to the world’s top universities.

To create a balanced academic programme, building confidence and leadership skills in addition to broadening the students’ understanding of world cultures, students will have one hour of compulsory physical education and one hour of service and study skills per week.

For entry to our AS and A-Level courses, students need to have at least a grade C (or level 4) in the same IGCSE subject, although a grade B (6) is recommended. Entry to the course is decided on a case by case basis.

It is recommended that students study four subjects in their first year to give a broad range of subjects, however, in some cases, students may choose to study three subjects after discussions with teachers and parents. In the first year of AS and A-Level programme at Themaid campus (Academic Year 2020/21), we will be offering a limited range of subjects, to meet parent and student demand and as the school grows, we will review the offer, adding more subjects as required.

The most important criteria for choosing A-Level subjects are:

  • Looking at what you are likely to enjoy and be good at. If you enjoy a subject or have an ability in it already, you are more likely to do well.
  • Are there any particular subjects and/or grades you may need? If you have a career, job, or further study in mind, you may need to choose specific A-Levels in order to meet entry requirements.
  • How open you want to keep your future study and career choices?

Students can choose one subject from each of the option blocks below (one from option 1, one from option 2 etc.).

Option Block 1

  • Physics
  • Biology

Option Block 2

  • Chemistry
  • French
  • Spanish

Option Block 3

  • Maths
  • Music
  • English

Option Block 4

  • English
  • Business

Subjects are grouped to enable the school timetable to be created, therefore certain subjects cannot be chosen together.

For example, a student who wishes to study Engineering at University would choose Physics from option 1, Chemistry (or a language) from option 2, Maths from option 3, and Business or English from option 4. Medical students would need to choose Biology in Option 1 and so on.

World-renowned universities regard the Cambridge A-Level programme as a course which produces well-rounded individuals who are prepared to embrace opportunities anywhere in the world. With our small class sizes and outstanding facilities, our Themaid Campus is one of the best places in Qatar to study A-Levels and to give your child a head start in education and in their career.

Nord Anglia Education schools have an outstanding track record in preparing students to excel in Cambridge A-Levels and beyond.

36% of Nord Anglia students achieved A-Level grades A* to A grades in the 2018/19 academic year, compared to the UK average of 26%.

In the same year, one in three of Nord Anglia Education graduates went on to one of the world's top 100 universities. A-Levels are a passport to success.
