Speech & Debate Hits the Floor Running

19 September 2019

The NB Speech &  Debate Team started off the National Speech and Debate Season Opener with a bang!  The Eagles excelled across all divisions and are coming home with hardware. Senior Daniel Ardity and Junior Sebastian Rabbini were 2nd place out of 77 teams from around the country in Varsity Policy, culminating their run in finals on a 2-1 decision. This record is especially significant because this is a new partnership and was Sebastian’s very first debate competition. They received their first bid to the Tournament of Champions. Senior Tyler Katz and Andrew Peterson were Octafinalists out of 151 teams from around the country in Varsity PF. They received their first Gold bid to the Tournament of Champions. Senior Anna Farronay and Junior Akash Deo were Octafinalists in Varsity Policy and Anna received 17th speaker at the tournament.

Anna Farronay and Junior Akash Deo had the honor of being invited to compete at the Greenhill Round Robin in Dallas, which celebrates the 16 of some of the top policy teams in the nation. They ended up 3rd place in their pod, completed their run as octafinalists in the tournament proper, receiving their first bid to the policy division of the Tournament of Champions. Public Forum seniors Tyler Katz and Andrew Peterson attended the Yale Invitational and received a 2nd gold bid for being recognized as octafinalists. They are fully qualified to the gold division of the Public Forum Tournament of Champions. Lastly, our junior-freshman brother duo of Jay and Dev Gopal reached the elimination rounds at Greenhill and were recognized as double octafinalists.
