Lower School Media Program Update
25 October 2020
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Lynn Sloan on a wonderful tenure as a full-time employee of NBPS. Mrs. Sloan has made outstanding contributions to our school and program and she will be greatly missed in our Lower School. This trimester, Mrs. Sloan has continued to provide support remotely for the LS Media Program by creating lesson plans for our subs and by helping to kick off the Reading Counts program. We are grateful to have her support as we worked to identify the best candidate to fulfill this important role.
We are happy to share that beginning Monday, November 2nd, Mrs. Melissa Wigdor will be joining the Lower School faculty and staff as our full time Media Specialist. Melissa comes to our school having worked as a Reading and Learning Specialist with children Pre-K through grade 8. For the past 15 years, Melissa has developed and implemented reading curriculums in elementary schools, in addition to teaching reading and writing skills to students in both a school and private setting. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Bank Street College of Education and a Certification in Reading from Teachers College, Columbia University. She began her career as a 2nd-grade teacher and a K-3 Curriculum Developer at The Manhattan New School in New York City. She has a passion for reading and will bring her literacy and teaching expertise to her role as the Media Specialist.
Melissa will continue to work with Mrs. Sloan and Mrs. Palermo over the next couple of weeks, and she will collaborate with the Upper School Media Faculty to ensure the continuity of our library and media programs. We are thrilled to welcome Melissa to our NBPS Lower School Faculty.
