We Could Be Heroes

Detective Superintendent Raegan Stewart visited Reception today as students were resisting a rest — they just won't stop learning! With the topic of 'Superheroes', it was a great opportunity to meet a real-life policewoman.

  • Reception students meet a real-life hero

By Prerna Nankani

This term we are learning all about ‘Superheroes’. The week began with a focus on real-life superheroes. We asked children who their real-life heroes were. Edward said, “My hero is my grandma because she cooks for me.” Jaxon’s hero is his dad because he plays hide and seek with him and Eva’s hero is her ballet teacher because she teaches her ballet.

It was lovely to hear all their comments about the special heroes in their life. We also had a very exciting visit from Mrs. Raegan Stewart a Detective Superintendent from Australia who is now working as a Senior Liaison Officer in Guangzhou. Thank you to Mrs. Stewart (Coby’s mum) for coming and talking to the Reception children about how special it is being a police officer. The children were so thrilled to see Mrs. Stewart in her police uniform with her medals and stars and also to learn about the important things she does being a police officer. They were super excited to learn about the different vehicles and animals the police use in their rescue team. They asked her so many questions about the badges and medals on her uniform and also the exciting things police officers do to catch bad guys. Sebastian was very curious to know whether Mrs. Stewart came to BSG in her police car.

It was a wonderful way to show the children that the everyday heroes are among us - they live with us, work with us and commute to school with us every day. With no fanfare or recognition, they help make society a better place through their work and the positive way they live their lives.
