Thursday 13th September: U19 Girls Volleyball vs ISD

In our first match of the season we played ISD. We started out very strong and confident, even though some of us have not played a match together before or we were playing new positions. Despite all of that, we showed a strong bond between our team mates and were able to adapt to it very quickly. Unfortunately, after playing 5 sets we lost 2-3. It was upsetting to the team but at the same time we felt happy because we knew how much we have improved as a team together, which is more important than just winning one game.

Saturday 15th September: U19 Girls Volleyball Tournament

In today’s tournament we realised our true potential as a Volleyball team and in my opinion, we played the best Volleyball in our BSG life. We never gave up, we were enthusiastic, passionate and had a team spirit so strong that no matter how loud the other teams were, they could never break us apart.

On arrival, we had to divide into two teams; A and B. Both teams played extremely well and had the determination to win, even though it was a friendly tournament.

Team A

NCPA were our first opponents and were relatively strong but this didn’t scare us at all and we ended up beating them in both sets. Our next game was straight after NCPA which didn’t give us a lot of time to recover, but that meant we were ready to fight against the strongest team in the tournament, ISNS. This game was very tough for us but we never gave up, even when we lost the first set. When it came to the second set our aim was to win this one because we deserved it! And we were much stronger and believed in ourselves that we did win the second set. Unfortunately, we lost the final set but not because we gave up, because we made some small mistakes that we now have to work on to become better in certain areas, such as receiving strong serves. The last game of the tournament was against CIS, it was the most intense game of all and the first set went up to 30 points! This shows the determination with wanting to win, everybody was a bit nervous because everything was so tense, but that didn’t affect our play in any way. In the end, we finally beat them in the second set. Finishing 3rd in the tournament overall.

Team B

This was led by Eunis. The B Team were not so confident at the beginning of the tournament, but as we played against CIS, we gained more confidence because we were able to play a lot and realise our potential. We lost to CIS, but we made some good plays and we felt more confident in ourselves. Our second match was SIS, and they were a very strong team, then NCPA after that. Although we didn’t win, we came out of the tournament believing in ourselves more and gaining extra experience in game situations.

Overall, it was a great tournament to see how much our whole team is worth, and being the Captain of the Volleyball team makes me very proud of how far we have come.
