After completing my degrees at the University of Leeds, I followed my passions for the outdoors and education to become a Field Studies Instructor on the Isle of Wight, UK.
Working with children on the Isle of Wight was thoroughly enjoyable and confirmed for me that I wanted to pursue a teaching career and so I completed my PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Southampton. My first teaching job was in a rural school in Hampshire teaching a mixed Year 1 and 2 class, and leading Science across the school. I worked there for three years.
Kieren and I then took jobs at British International School, Phuket, Thailand, where we developed a love for international education. I was Year Leader for Year 1 and enjoyed three wonderful years there as a Y1 teacher and Science Leader. After the birth of our first daughter we moved back to Sheffield, UK and have been here for the past 7 years, adding another daughter to our family.
Over this last seven years I have worked at lovely multi-cultural school in Sheffield, teaching Year 2 for three years and Early Years for the last four. I have led the school in Assessment, Curriculum Development and Maths. I have also been working as an Early Years Maths Consultant, working with a number of schools across Sheffield and South Yorkshire to improve their maths provision and capacity for leadership. My passion is working in the classroom with children, helping to extend their thinking whilst also having fun and I can’t wait to start work at British School of Guangzhou.
Outside of school I love to spend time with family and friends. I've loved being part of a community choir in Sheffield – for the sense of belonging and friendship it brings rather than my singing voice! I love to swim and run and walk and have recently started Pilates.
As a family we are very excited to be starting at British School of Guangzhou. I am really looking forward to meeting my new class and becoming part of the BSG family and wider community.
