Having received a degree in History and Politics from the University of Liverpool, I went on to complete a PGCE before teaching Humanities in a Secondary school in the UK. I taught there for 11 years and enjoyed my role first as a teacher and then as a Head of Department. When I moved to Guangzhou with my family in 2016 I took the decision to have a short career break to help settle my two young children into life in a new country.
I have always had a keen interest in education in Early Years having seen first-hand in my teaching how important development at this stage is to the future success of children. The last two years gave me a unique opportunity to volunteer at Early Years and see the incredible work that goes on there. Consequently I made the decision to apply for the role of Nursery Teacher and I have been developing my knowledge and understanding of the age group over the last year including gaining more experience as a classroom teacher in Nursery. I look forward to bringing my passion for teaching and love of learning to all my young students in the coming years.
I moved to Guangzhou two years ago with my husband and our two children aged 5 and 3 who both attend BSG. Guangzhou is our first experience of living and working outside of the UK and we all have enjoyed getting to know the city and the people living here, although we still need to work much harder on our Chinese language skills! Outside of school I love creating and crafting, sometimes making costumes for events and at other times crochet and knitting items like blankets. I like to travel to different places and am looking forward to seeing more of China and the surrounding area over the next few years.
