Staff Profiles: Donal Crawford

EAL - Donal Crawford

Head of EAL (Secondary)

I have been involved in education for nearly 20 years as a School Principal, School Manager, Head of English and English (second language) teacher, and I am delighted to be continuing my career at the British School of Guangzhou, where I am very keen to engage with English learners in the classroom and share my knowledge and enthusiasm for learning with them.

Trained as a teacher in the UK and qualified to Masters level, I have taught in the UK, New Zealand, Thailand and Italy, but most of my career has been in China, where I have worked for over 15 years. Before joining BSG I was Principal of schools in Chengdu and Shanghai, and I also spent 3 years as Centre Principal/English teacher of a UK University Foundation programme in Guangzhou. In addition, I have extensive experience in English Language examinations, English Language learning strategies and university entrance/careers advice.

Outside of school I am an avid music fan, and have tried (and failed) to be a superstar musician in the folk, rock and punk fields. I currently play in an Irish band - the Canton Ramblers - and we can sometimes be heard around the bars of Guangzhou. As an Irish Kiwi, I am a passionate fan of rugby, although my playing days are over.
