Music Teacher

I love teaching in Asia. I have taught in several countries in Asia including Japan, Thailand and now China. When I finished university in the UK, I decided I wanted to work abroad so I got a job in Japan as an English language teacher. I lived there for 2 years and thoroughly enjoyed it. That’s when I fell in love with teaching children and decided I wanted to be a Primary school teacher.

I returned to England to do my PGCE and then went on to become a Primary school teacher in Wiltshire, England, for 5 years. There I taught Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. I liked my job but Asia was calling me back, so I decided to move to Thailand to be a Primary school teacher in an international school in Rayong. I have just completed my two year contract there and although I was very happy there, I was ready to explore China - my next adventure! I decided Guangzhou was the place to go because the school has a good reputation. Teachers in my school in Thailand actually recommended it to me. It is also close to Hong Kong and I really liked it there when I visited last year.

I like nothing more than discovering new experiences. I have lived in the countryside for the past 2 years and although it was beautiful I missed the culture. I like to spend my weekends sightseeing – whether it’s just walking around a city soaking it all up or seeing a show or an art exhibition. I enjoy taking lots if photographs and although I haven’t done so in a while, I like to paint. I love music! I played the trumpet when I was a child and recently I started playing again and joined the school orchestra. I have ran lots of choirs and dance classes for children over the last 7 years and I have also taken dance classes myself recently and it is something I would like to continue during my time in Guangzhou.
