After completing my Zoology degree at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, I first worked in a school as a special needs teaching assistant. This initial experience inspired a passion for working with children and I began my PGCE to become a teacher as soon as possible working within Year 2 & 6 classes. Upon completion, I returned to the school which I had previously worked at but as a Year 5 teacher.

I am from the North-East of England from a town called Bishop Auckland. After gaining an MA in Psychology and Sociology from Glasgow University I then studied at Liverpool Hope University where I graduated with a PGCE in primary education. From the age of 18 I have always wanted to work with children and over the years have volunteered in numerous educational sectors.

I studied Sociology and Criminology at the University of Brighton and obtained TESOL certification in Spain, before beginning my English-teaching career in South Korea. I quickly realised how much I love teaching, and returned to the UK to gain Qualified Teacher Status in Primary Education. I then packed my bags once again and set off to Beijing, where I have been teaching in Reception for the past two years. Although I truly love Beijing, I was keen to experience life in another area of China, and so after thorough research, I landed upon Guangzhou and indeed, BSG!

I studied Applied Biological Sciences at the University of Bath, graduating in 2001. During my degree I was lucky enough to spend a placement in Indonesia studying the diving methods of local fishermen. This was my first experience of Asia which I loved, the people I met and the places and cultures I experienced have always remained with me and I always hoped to return to this part of the world. Following this I completed my PGCE in primary education and then spent 7 years teaching full time in Wiltshire, working with children from reception to year 6. Following the birth of my first son Rory, I moved to Cornwall with my family where I have been teaching since. I love teaching and feel privileged to have worked with so many amazing children and their families in my career so far.

I graduated in 2014 from Liverpool John Moores University, where I achieved a BA in Primary Education with Early Years. I have spent the last two years teaching in Northern Ireland. In my first year I took on the role of a Learning Support teacher. This position enabled me to gain a greater understanding of the curriculum as a whole, and has provided me with the opportunity to work with children at each stage of primary education. In my second year, as well as KS1/KS2 class teacher, I was given the additional responsibility of coordinating special educational needs.

My first experience in international teaching took place at the British School of Beijing, where I had the opportunity to work before attending university. After completing my MA at the University of Aberdeen, UK, I took on a role as a teaching assistant at the British College of Brazil. It was during my time in Brazil that I truly fell in love with teaching and started to develop a strong interest in the different teaching styles and how these have an impact on children’s learning behaviours.

Here, I not only developed a keen interest in education, but also thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in a completely new culture and seeing amazing parts of the world. I returned to England to complete a Bachelors Degree, followed by a PGCert in Education Practice. In the following year, I became a qualified teacher when I completed a PGDip in Primary teaching.
