Profile - Roshni Maher

Year 2 Teacher

I graduated from De Montfort University in Leicester with an honours degree in English. A year later, I began working for the British Council in Germany. Here, I worked at a Comprehensive School in Hamburg as a Foreign Language Assistant. During my time in Germany, I travelled around Europe. It was during this time that my desire to work in China grew. I met many Chinese tourists and found their culture to be fascinating.

After finishing my post in Germany, I worked at a Summer School on the island of Malta. As the Lead English Teacher, I researched, planned and delivered lessons to students for whom English was a second language. As well as that, I also managed a team of teachers. I thoroughly loved working and travelling around Europe. However, I wanted to venture out to Asia so shortly after completing my post in Malta, I obtained a job in South India. I worked as a Guest Lecturer teaching English at Bishop Heber College in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.

I met Chinese students in Trichy and learned more about their traditions. My desire to work in China grew even further. I finally travelled to China in 2010 and enjoyed all it had to offer. I returned home a while later and completed my teacher training programme, and after graduating, began teaching at a Primary School in Leicester. In August 2015, after teaching in England for three years, I decided to make my dream a reality.
