Aidan Stallwood

Assistant Head & Year 5 Teacher

I began my journey as a teacher in a two form entry Catholic School in London, where I was able to work with wonderful children and supportive teachers. There I honed my skills and was able to utilise opportunities to develop, firstly being appointed PE Coordinator then Reading and Phonics Manager. During which time we were able to put together a whole school production at a London theatre, developed reading at the school and have had the privilege of being involved in the schools international winning Salsa team.

From there I moved into a Phase Leader post at a more central Christian school and was Mathematics Coordinator before being appointed to Assistant Head. Whilst at the school I managed to achieve some of my biggest goals, included finishing my Masters in Education and also contributing to a new Mathematics Programme which has now been rolled out to over 55 primary schools in the UK. At both schools I have been predominately involved in Years 5 and 6 so have watched the children advance and acquire the knowledge necessary for Key Stage 2 SATs. It was a tough decision to move to this School, which would separate me from many friends and family, but when the opportunity arose to join such a prestigious school in an area of China I would like to get to know I could not refuse!

Travelling is certainly one of my passions and I have had the privilege of seeing and experiencing a wide variety of different people, lands and cultures. When back at home I enjoy taking part in sports, especially squash, wall climbing and football. As a lifelong Arsenal fan I have had the opportunity to watch a team close to my heart win many trophies, long may it continue. One achievement of my own was recently having the opportunity to run in the British Olympic Stadium and have set myself a challenge to complete a Triathlon soon. Another aspiration that I harbour, now that I am living in China, is to learn Mandarin as there will be no better opportunity to do so.
