At the high school level, the Village music curriculum prepares students for a lifelong engagement with the arts, become informed, reflective and critical practitioners in the arts, understand the dynamic and changing nature of the arts and explore and value the diversity of the arts across time, place and cultures.
Students engage with, and express ideas with confidence and competence, as well as develop perceptual and analytical skills. They demonstrate knowledge, understanding and perception of music in a contextual relationship to time, place, and cultures, using appropriate musical terminology to communicate their critical understanding of music.
In addition to mastering comparative analysis of music, students obtain creative skills through exploration, control and development of musical elements; performance skills through solo music making or group music making; and critical thinking skills through reflective thought.
