TX at the Saigon Maths Challenge 2017

08 June 2017

Maths is an integral part to every child’s learning. At TX we are always trying to provide situations and problems that test our children’s understanding of mathematical concepts, and provide them with practical opportunities to enhance their learning.

This week, a team of eight TX mathematicians spent the morning at BVIS to compete in the annual Saigon Maths Challenge. There were six different schools competing this year from all over the city. The event is a true test of every participant’s mathematical knowledge and demonstrates the high level of learning from each of the pupils.

This year the children had to participate in a variety of team and individual challenges that tested each strand of their mathematical ‘know how’.

“My favourite challenge was the ‘make the number’ round. We were given six different numbers and allowed to use any operation to make a target number. As a team we completed 8/10 challenges.” Benz, Year 6

“I really enjoyed the logic round, it was a real brainteaser.” – Tutu, Year 6

“I loved the speed round. It was great fun and a real challenge of my mathematical accuracy.” – Tina, Year 6

Congratulations to Benz for achieving 2nd place in the individual test across all competitors, missing out on the top spot by only one mark.

We are extremely proud of each of the children involved; they worked wonderfully as a team and their dedication and responsible attitude was a credit to our school.
