It’s game on at our America schools as students get ready to compete in this year’s Global Games

Over a thousand students in grades 6 - 8 (American schools) or Years 7 - 9 (British Schools) from 14 schools will descend upon Windermere Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida as it plays host to the Global Games for the Americas, the region’s annual sporting competition. New schools to the Nord Anglia Education (NAE) family in Costa Rica and Brazil will also compete together with the US schools, making it the biggest Americas Global Games event to date.

Held from 27 November to 1 December, the event will kick off in true Olympian-style with an opening ceremony. Each school, banner in hand, will take part in a parade around the track led by a traditional Scottish bag piper.

Athletes will participate in both team and individual competitions from flag football, soccer, tennis swimming, track, sand and hard-court volleyball, archery and basketball. When not competing in sports, students will get into the spectator spirit, cheering on their classmates or hanging out on campus with friends in the Global Games Olympic Village where food, games and tents to relax can be found.

Evenings also promise to be full of fun as students will get to visit a variety of local theme parks and restaurants in the area, including Planet Hollywood in Disney Springs for sing-alongs and shopping, Dave and Busters for pizza, hamburgers, and arcade games and Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center.

Launched and piloted in the US, the Global Games is a key regional event for all NAE schools. The event is an opportunity for our students to celebrate sportsmanship where they learn to win with dignity, lose with grace respect each other and create strong bonds and lasting memories. They imbibe the qualities of team work and collaboration by having a great time together in a safe, enjoyable environment.

Follow us here and on our social media channels as our America schools bring us a taste of the action at the Global Games later this month!
