Jeremy Cao

New York University

Congratulations to 2020 Graduate Jeremy who has been accepted by New York University to study Computer Science.

1. Please tell us your plans after graduating from BSB e.g. Have you decided which university you will be attending?  What is your major?

I will be attending NYU for the foreseeable future as a computer science major. However, I may also elect to pursue physics instead.

2. Please tell us the names of any school events you’ve participated in.

MUN, WSC, BRITMUN, Roundabout Book fair, CERN Trip

3. Please describe any charity work that you have participated in? What did you learn from the experience?

Outside of Tanzania, I don’t believe I have been all too charitable (something I should probably work on). That being said, helping at the Roundabout Book fair held at BSB would be an example.

4. Which one is your favourite school trip/residential. What do you like about the trip?

Definitely the Year 13 Swiss residential as we were given the freedom to plan our own trip instead of following a set package. I’m sure this trip has been good for the marketing dept as well. Click here to read more.

5. Please describe 2 of your best memories of your time at BSB.

My involvement with BRITMUN was certainly the highlight of my high school career. Please click here for more details about 2019 BRITMUN and 2018 BRITMUN.

Another highlight was visiting the labs at CERN back in IGCSE. This trip, run by our Science Teacher, was the first time I had ever been to Europe, and gifted me with numerous fun memories of my friends.

6. What was your favourite IB subject and why?

My favorite subject was certainly physics, not only due to how fascinating I find the mechanics behind our world to be, but also because of my teacher, Mr Byrne. It is definitely the subject I would like to pursue in life.

7. Who is your favourite teacher and why?

This is an extremely difficult question to answer. I’d say Mr Byrne for sheer enjoyment, Ms Sankar for personal growth, and Mr Brigstock for the effort he puts into his lessons.

8. How has studying at BSB helped you achieve academic success/ university acceptance/ personal development?

I believe it mainly comes down to the teachers and the effort they put into lessons; I rarely have a bad experience with any of them. I’m sure the new facilities in the library are of great help too, but alas, I haven’t had enough time with them this year to give a proper evaluation.

9. What do you think is special about BSB?

Outside of the teaching staff, I’d say BSB has a very friendly and supportive student body. Bullying isn’t really an issue (or at least I haven’t experienced any) and the general attitude is certainly cooperative.

10. What advice do you have for other students at school?

Start on your university applications early, develop a professional relationship with your teachers, and get involved in as many extra-curricular activities as is reasonably possible. This will all go a long way to help you in the future.
