    I qualified as a teacher in 2013 at Edge Hill University with a BA in Primary Education and Performing Arts. I have worked internationally for 5 years in both Qatar and Brazil. During this time, I have experienced both Key Stages, teaching in Year 1 and Year 6. Throughout my teaching career, I have shared a love of drama with children and teachers alike, directing a number of school musicals and productions as well as running drama based ASA’s for children of all year groups. China’s vast culture and BSB’s great reputation helped me to make the decision to move my ever-changing adventure to Beijing.

    I graduated from Wolverhampton University in Fine Art and went onto undertaking Post Graduate Diplomas in Building Surveying (Reading University) and Architectural Stone Conservation (Bournemouth University). From there I worked as a Stone Conservator, restoring/conserving historic/listed buildings throughout the UK including Salisbury Cathedral, Westminster Abby, Cardiff Castle and Kensington Palace. During this time I became involved in teaching these subjects. I enjoyed teaching so much this led onto me qualifying as a fulltime teacher.

    Melissa Manning

    Hello, my name is Miss Manning! I graduated from St Mary’s University Twickenham in 2010 with a BA honours in Primary Education, and have been teaching ever since. Over the course of my teaching career,  I have worked hard to explore as many areas in primary education as possible. In my first school, I quickly progressed into curriculum leaderships roles in Physical Education,  Writing, and then, into a Senior Leadership role as a Phase leader. I also became a lead Team Teacher, where I actively supported the development of Newly Qualified Teachers.

    In 2016 I moved to Beijing to teach, and to undertake a position as ‘Academic Supervisor’ in a school that focused on supporting children and adults who were EAL learners. During my time in Beijing, I had become very aware of the high reputation that The British School of Beijing Shunyi held, and decided that I would like to continue my teaching career there. I am very excited to begin my new chapter at BSB Shunyi.

    Thomas Brown

    I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2016 with a postgraduate degree in Primary Education. Although I qualified in 2016, I have been volunteering in schools as early as 2009, where I discovered teaching as my passion. I was quickly inspired by those around me to pursue a career in education, and have continued to meet and work alongside such influential people since teaching at Peters Hill Primary School in the West Midlands. There, I gained experience in working in a large primary school setting, as the school hosts over nine hundred students, from Nursery up to Year 6. I thrived in the school’s atmosphere and enjoyed the camaraderie between staff members, as well as the community that a larger school can foster. After a couple of years, I became Pupil Premium Lead, focusing on how we enabled disadvantaged children to receive an enriched and fulfilling curriculum both inside and outside of school.

    After a wonderful four years, I decided it was time to pursue a career teaching abroad, something I have wanted to do since qualifying. Much searching lead me to the BSB Shunyi website, where the ambitious and passionate aims and ethos presented were enough to convince me that this was the school and community I wanted to be part of. I eagerly look forward to developing my teaching practice, being offered brand new opportunities and having the privilege of working in such a diverse and inspiriting school.
