Sourcing & Sorting

Volunteers from the PPSG offered their help and labour for preparing new resources for all the Primary classes, which is a big help to our teachers and students.

  • PPSG sort maths resources

With so many new classes this year, we decided that all teachers needed a bank of ‘everyday’ maths resources that could be stored in each classroom so that children could really benefit from hands on experience with objects such as different dice, place value counters and double sided counters. This meant that over 35,000 counters and over 500 dice needed to be sorted into 140 boxes for all the classes to receive 4 each - a mammoth task that took the 10 volunteers almost two and a half hours to complete.

Terance of the PPSG said of his team: "It was great to see those parent volunteers putting in so much effort and time to support the school yesterday.”

Head of Maths, Mr Garnett-Smith added: “I am so grateful to the volunteers for their help. Here at BSG, we are aiming to develop teaching for Mastery in all classes, and in order to do this, all classes need a bank of resources that they can use on a daily basis. I’m really pleased that the school have supported me with the funds to purchase these resources, to add to the Numicon that was introduced earlier in the term. This is absolutely fundamental to mastery teaching, and the school have been very positive already this year. Without the help of our PPSG team of volunteers, it would have taken me months to organise these boxes on my own. They have been magnificent!”

Teachers will now receive bonus training evenings on how to use the resources to best support children, and we look forward to sharing pictures of their learning through our weekly class PATHs Communications.
