Riley's Bio
Dancer and choreographer Riley O’Flynn was born in San Francisco, California. He began performing musical theatre at age 5 and dancing when he was 13 years old. Within a year he realised he wanted to pursue dance at a professional level so transferred to the performing arts high school in San Francisco. It was there that he was exposed to contemporary dance for the first time, and fell in love with the art form. During his summer holidays he continued his dance training at various summer dance programs including Lines Ballet (San Francisco), Complexions Contemporary Ballet (New York), San Francisco Conservatory of Dance (San Francisco), Nederlands Dans Theater (The Hague), and The Juilliard School (New York). His summer at Juilliard inspired him to apply to the school for college.
He graduated from the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts in 2013 and moved to New York City in August to attend Juilliard. During his study at Juilliard, he had the privilege of creating new works with choreographers such as Takehiro Ueyama, Loni Landon, Zvi Gotheiner, and Matthew Neenan. He also performed classic repertory pieces by Martha Graham, Jiří Kylián, and Richard Alston. Passionate about engaging with local communities, he participated in Juilliard’s community engagement opportunities teaching in New Orleans, California, and El Salvador.
In 2014, as a National Young Arts Winner in Dance, Riley received national recognition and support as a young emerging artist in the United States. He was also the recipient of New York City’s 2016 Princess Grace Award that assists emerging talent in theatre, dance, and film.
After graduating from The Juilliard School in 2017, Riley moved to Gothenburg, Sweden, where he is a company member of GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.
