Get your groove on!

In Reception we love to get our hands messy with fun activities, one of which was to create a one-of-a-kind, tie-dyed t-shirt from scratch!

  • Tie-dye in Reception

By Prerna Nankani, Reception & IT Lead Teacher.

It was a great way to create bright, vibrant t-shirts while putting those fine motor skills to good use! The children learnt the techniques of twisting the t-shirt, using rubber bands to tie the t-shirt and then spraying it with good old-fashioned dye. The children also made colourful caps using fabric markers and fabric paint. First they planned and created their design on a template and then they brought them to life by drawing and painting the design on the caps using fabric markers and paint.

Finally, we finished our unit of work on ‘Clothing’ with a colourful display of all of the clothes the children designed and created.  They had a great time strutting up and down the catwalk wearing their unique tie dyed t-shirts and colourful jewel encrusted caps. They have indeed perfected their catwalk poses and hip-hop dance moves now and loved having their photos taken.
