Well done to our Year 7 and 8 students who recently competed in the Junior Mathematical Challenge, organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) – a registered charity founded in 1996, whose focus is to promote a love for problem-solving in schools.

UKMT 2021

Approximately 250,000 students from around the world are invited each year to apply their mathematical skills to sophisticated conundrums in a 60-minute online challenge.

The top 6% are awarded gold certificates, with 13% achieving silver and 21% bronze.

Overall, BSG students achieved 17 gold, 24 silver and 19 bronze awards. A total of 80 students took part in the challenge with 75% achieving either of the 3 awards — ranking our students amongst the top 40% in the global performance!

A huge congratulations to Lucas in Year 8 for achieving the Best in Year and Best in School certificates, and to Jenny in Year 7 for the Best in Year certificate.

Lucas' outstanding performance places him amongst the best 1,200 achievers, and has subsequently been invited to take part in the next stage of the competition, which is the Junior Mathematical Olympiad.
