Head of EAL (Primary)
MA, PGCE
I started working with EAL children after my degree in Applied Linguistics and Language teaching and have led EAL (English as an Additional Language) teams in three other International Schools – Bangkok Patana School in Thailand, The British International School Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and The British School Warsaw in Poland. In the two latter schools, I was Head of Inclusion overseeing the provision for both EAL and SEN (Special Educational Needs).

EAL Teacher
I came to China in 2019 and just like many other travellers, was only expecting to stay in China for a year. I lived in Beijing for two years as a teacher and wanted to develop my career by completing my PGCEi at University of Nottingham. Prior to my adventures to China, I studied Arts and Festivals Management and Dance at De Montfort University, Leicester.
My career as a teacher first started when I volunteered as a grade 8 English teacher at an underprivileged school in my hometown as a teenager. I went on to complete my bachelor’s degree and directly thereafter, my Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate.
MSc, CELTA, PGCE
I gained an MSc from the University of Glasgow and a CELTA from Cambridge before taking the exciting step to join the British School of Guangzhou in 2013. I have spent the last amazing 8 years here being involved in supporting children in Year 1, 2, 3 and 5. This will be my fourth year working as an EAL teacher here. Working in BSG has been thoroughly enjoyable and affirmed my desire to enhance my teaching skills and my curriculum knowledge, so I completed my PGCE through the University of Sunderland recently. To fulfil the same desire, I am also working as a content creator for the Element Projects and the DNA Collection on NAU Global Campus.
BA
From a very young age, I have always had an ear for language. By high school, I was already fluent in English, French and Arabic, and looking to take on a fourth. So I started studying Mandarin and became captivated by the Chinese language and culture. At the age of 19, I made a life-changing decision to move to China to study at Tianjin University of Technology, and in 2015, graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Mandarin and Japanese.
I have been teaching English in Guangzhou for eight years, and during this time, have taught learners aged 9 to 90! In my most recent post, I was teaching English in a PYP school, where I was the international leader for Grade 6.
I was inspired to apply to work at the British School because of its stellar reputation in the city, and its well-known commitment to developing students and staff.
While taking an extended gap year travelling extensively around Asia, I developed a keen interest in the cultures and languages of the region and so enrolled to read Southeast Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies. I focused mainly on the history, culture, and politics of the region, but had a special interest in the languages. I studied Indonesian, classical Malay, Urdu and Persian. I then went on to complete a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from Newcastle University
MA
I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I began my teaching career as an adult IELTS teacher in 2012 after reading my MA in Applied Linguistics at Newcastle University, England. I later moved on teaching English in a prominent language center here in Guangzhou, where I progressed through senior teaching roles, to a positon of teacher trainer.
