There is no greater privilege than working with young people during their formative years. When opportunity and support is combined with motivation and time, it is a recipe for success that all learners, young and old, can follow. Throughout my career, I have been incredibly fortunate to work in schools where such an approach exists. Whether working in dynamic state and private schools in the UK, or overseas in Bahrain, Dubai, Thailand and, now, China, the day-to-day interactions with both students and colleagues is a never ending source of enjoyment and challenge.
I have been a Head of Secondary in four schools but I started my career as a Geography teacher, and have extensive experience as Head of Department and Head of Year. Regardless of the role, I have always tried to keep the focus firmly on learning, constantly driving to improve student experience and outcomes. I also enjoy studying and have completed a Masters Degree in Education and the UK Headship qualification, the NPQH. Most recently, I was Head of Secondary at a sister NAE school in Thailand. BSG’s outstanding reputation made it an easy decision to make the move to Guangzhou. My wife, Helen, has joined the English Department and my son, Alex, is in Year 3. As a family we enjoy travelling, hiking and theme parks! I am also a keen runner and have completed several marathons.
