Since graduating from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, in 1998, I have taught in every primary school year group from reception to year 6. This has provided me with over 20 years of experience across all primary school ages. Since 2010, I have held various leadership positions including Depute Head and Principal Teacher. From May 2016 until August 2018, I was employed by the Scottish Government as Principal Teacher for the Scottish Attainment Challenge, West Lothian, in an advisory capacity across the local authority. The initial focus for this role was supporting the health and wellbeing of all of the children in two schools, followed by the responsibility for successfully ensuring attainment was raised in Literacy and Numeracy.
In August 2018 I moved to Qatar to join my wife and daughter in Nord Anglia’s school in Doha. I was employed as the Milepost Lead with responsibility for years 1 and 2. I thoroughly enjoyed working within the international sector and was delighted to be appointed as a teacher and Student Welfare Lead in BSG. As a family, we have come to Guangzhou based on professional recommendations and the school’s excellent international reputation. I plan to make China home for the foreseeable future and look forward to getting to know the families and staff in BSG.
Coming from the UK, my main passion is football. Unfortunately, a significant knee injury a few years ago now prevents me from playing or continuing my refereeing career. I have been following the Chinese Super League and I am looking forward to attending Evergrande matches. My intention is to get a season ticket for next season. I also enjoy travelling, cycling and kayaking and hope to spend my free time pursuing these activities.
